About the New York Stock Exchange

History

The New York Stock Exchange was founded in May 1792 when the Buttonwood Agreement as signed. In 2006, the NYSE merged with Archipelago Exchange (which is called NYSE Arca today). Through this deal, the NYSE became a for-profit, publicly traded company.
