Why Is No One Picking Up My DoorDash Order?
No one is picking up your DoorDash order because there are no Dashers (DoorDash’s independent delivery drivers) interested in the order, or they aren’t available to pick up your order.
Here’s what to know and what you can do in these situations…
No Dashers Are Interested In The Order
A big reason for this is that the tip is not high enough. DoorDash pays their contractors by calculating the bare minimum costs, which usually totals 2 or 3 dollars.
Dashers might think that this is not worth the trip, especially if the order is made late or the distance is too far. A good estimation of a tip amount to entice a Dasher into picking up your order is the general tipping standard – 15-20% of your total bill.
Another reason might be distance. Dashers might not think an order is worth picking up if there is traffic congestion or you are located far away from the restaurant. Remember, Dashers are earned per delivery rather than by hours.
No Dashers Are Available
Sometimes, there is simply no Dashesr available to pick up your order. This usually happens when the order is made during odd hours or busy times. These Dashers could be off-shift or occupied with other orders.
What Happens If No One Picks Up My DoorDash Order?
When no one is picking up your DoorDash order, you have four options to resolve the issue:
- DoorDash will cancel the order, refund, and apologize
- You cancel the order and receive a refund
- You place another order but with a higher tip
- You pick up the order yourself
DoorDash Will Cancel The Order, Refund, And Apologize
If your order is still not picked up after 30 minutes, DoorDash will cancel the order and refund you. Also, the amount that DoorDash refunds you depends on your choice of resolution.
If you choose to pick up the order yourself or reorder from a different Dasher, DoorDash will only refund the delivery fee and additional tips. However, DoorDash will refund the total bill if you cancel the order altogether.
You Cancel The Order And Receive A Refund
If you decide to cancel the order, you can receive your refund in full. However, the order must not have been assigned to a driver yet or confirmed by the restaurant.
You can cancel your DoorDash order by:
- Navigating to the “Orders” page on Doordash
- Click on “Help”
- Tap on “Delivery Issues”
- Select your resolution (picking up, reordering, full refund) or chat with an agent
Attempt To Place The Order Again With A Higher Tip
You can place the order again but with a higher tip this time. There is a higher chance for Dashers to pick up your order when the tip amount is higher. Regardless, there is no 100% guarantee because there simply might not be any Dashers available to pick up your order.
Pick Up The Order Yourself
If no one is picking up your DoorDash order, you can simply choose to pick up the order yourself. While it is much more of a hassle, DoorDash will refund the delivery fee and additional tips to you. In that case, you must inform DoorDash before and after you pick up your order.
Can I Pick Up My Own DoorDash Order?
Yes, you can pick up your own DoorDash order instead of a Dasher. To do so, simply click on the Pickup tab when placing the order.
Note: Take note of the time and process of your order preparation to know when to leave the house and avoid receiving cold food.
If you choose to pick up your order after there aren’t any Dashers available, ensure that you choose the self pickup resolution upon the cancellation of the original order. This tells the restaurant to keep your order on hold or resume preparing your order. You will also receive a refund for delivery fees from DoorDash.
